There are two reasons, both having to do with the physiology of the man's reproductive system:

1 - The prostate gland is about an inch inside the anus (in men; women don't have prostates). It contains a cluster of nerves that can cause VERY pleasant sensations if stimulated during sexual arousal. Some sex researchers call it "the G spot for men;" I've also heard it referred to as "the P spot" (P for prostate). But it can have a similar effect on a man's orgasm that G-spot stimulation can for women.

2 - The PC muscle (short for pubococcygeal, which is a 140-point word in Scrabble :-) wraps around the anus and the base of the penis (or around the opening of the vagina in women). It's shaped like a figure-8. Applying tension to the rear portion of the PC muscle also causes tension on the forward portion, which stimulates all SORTS of nerve endings in the man's reproductive system, including the all-important nerves in the seminal vesicles. (They're the part that actually squeezes when he ejaculates, so applying pressure to them makes the climax that much harder.) It's like getting leverage when you are trying to push something heavy -- the muscles work a lot better when they're pushing against something than if they're just working against the air.

The net result? You can increase the intensity (and pleasure) of a man's orgasm by careful stimulation of the prostate and the PC muscle. We're talking shattering, can't-stand-up, 100-cc-of-epi-STAT quality orgasms here.

Relatively few heterosexual men know about this, or for that matter are even willing to READ about it, because we've been so conditioned to be homophobes from an early age. Your boyfriend obviously has no such hangups. I'd recommend seeing what ELSE he has no hangups about, especially if they involve doing things to you that you like -- you might be in for a real treat!

You might try looking over a sex-toy site on the Web some time; try the one in the Sources link below. There's a whole category of anal toys for men, and you may be surprised at how many straight couples have reviewed products there. You might find something that works better than a finger and isn't such a shock for you.

For real fun, sit with your boyfriend and look over the site together -- see what turns you both on. Enjoy!

Like Pixie said, he should have asked you to do it. I've heard about this enhancing the guy's orgasm, but I haven't heard of a guy doing it to himself.
Usually I see questions from other guys asking about their ladies doing it to them.
Sorry for laughing, but I could see how it could ruin your moment.
Communication is key to any relationship.
Good luck.

not gross at all.. i love it when my hubby does it to me.. i got him to let me do it to him once.. it feels so good.. and for a guy, when you stick your finger there, it is easy to hit his prostate. for some guys, this can feel the way a gspot does to some girls. you can also access the prostate by pushing on/rubbing the spot in between his balls and his bumhole. if it weirds you out, don't be afraid to tell him, but also, don't be afraid to be open to different things.. you never know.. you might like them if you don't freak out too bad.

LOL ... Yeah that would be a little awkward. There is a spot up there that makes him c u m. It almost intensifies it. Ask him, talk about it, because if you don't you're relationship will fall apart.

he likes anal ..had he experimented with the same sex before you? It sounds like just from reading the above that he's into anal sex ( as far as the recieving end ) if you want this relationship to work you MUST talk about it.

Yeah, I agree with you it's kinda gross. Maybe gently bring it up and ask him why he did that or why it turns him on.
