All police officers go through intensive training to handle those types of situations. There are a lot of big people out there, so even male officers of small to average build face the same risks as women when dealing with a large suspect.

So if they are starting face to face and the guy is resisting from the beginning, she's may have a tough fight. However, you just mean the handcuff process right?
Years ago, during a training class that consisted mostly of huge Canadian Mounties. One woman, about 5'4, 115 pounds. We were being taught various take-down and control techniques. They put this girl up against one of the Canadian officers, about 6'3', 250. He was told that from the first touch he should resist. First attempt she didn't quite grab his hand in the right location and it was a struggle that the instructor called after about 30 seconds. Second attempt the guy was down, in pain, in less than 5 seconds.

Being a police officer let me tell you..... First off a smart female will call for backup, two is always better than one. Second the belt we carry contains a few tools to help us out. If he resists OC spray or my favorite the X26 taser will subdue the subject and they usually quit fighting. If not the radio is the best tool because by the time it has got to this point everyone within 10 miles is on their way.

Most Police Officers (Men or Women) have some training to acquire verbal conflict resolution skills and most people they come in contact with are susceptible to pressure points, arm bars and joint locks. They are by law authorized to use progressively more violent deterrents pepper sprays, mace, tasers, billy clubs, up to and including the deadly force of a 12 gauge, 10mm or an AR 15.

The Israli Mossad have developed a martial art called Krav Maga, it is used in law enforcement and will allow a small officer subdue a large opponent. (I've had it demonstrated on me once. I had a 108 pound 5'1 woman throw me, I'm 5'10 and at the time I was a 230 lb forest fire fighter.)

Guns scare me. I guess they'd be enough to make even a big ol' boy lay down. And if it's anything like where I live, we all know at least one big ol' boy that taught us how to defend ourselves - just by picking on us. I might be little, but I can put up a fight if I have to. My brother is 6'4", 250 lbs...He tortured me when we were in highschool. I got mad one day, playing football with him..I got him on the ground (somehow) and broke his collarbone - oops. I'm 5'3" -- and can still hurt him a little....hehehe.
