I think he played with Bob Dylan on his 2004 tour. There is a track called Empty Rooms on a live album which is blues guitar at its best

Thin Lizzy was the only group he was with as far as I know

His original band were called Skid Row (late 60's early 70's) and not the skid row who were a band in the late 80's.
He left to further his solo career but soon joined thin lizzty.
temporarily
Before leaving,
then rejoining in 76 and leaving shortly after before re joining (again) in 1978 before leaving to do his solo career again.
