Ears are generally one of those areas that are sensitive to the touch. There are a lot of nerve endings in the skin of your ear and the surrounding area.
And for the first answer... the throat and the ear are connected by the eustachian tube. Nerves often "set each other off" so to speak... meaning that when one is stimulated, the others in that nerve path will react as well. Someone can touch you on your lower back, and you feel chills all the way to your neck. Same principle.

Because your ear canal gets slightly itchy from irritations, but unlike other places on you, there's no easy way to get at it.
Imagine you could only scratch an itch once a day - wouldn't that once a day be a great relief? The q-tip represents what it would feel like if you were only allowed to scratch an itch once a day.

I don't know what it is but boy am I glad to see someone else admit it! I confess, I love cleaning my ears! I do it everyday. Nothing like the feeling of a cotton swab swirling around in my ear...ahhh.

I don't know why it does, either, but I sure derive pure pleasure from it myself and hate it when there's no q-tips handy. My husband's the same way. We just love it and groan contentedly. Ahh, now where's my tippers?
