City of Lost Children was the first I ever saw, and I was hooked from then. Delicatessen was, as another said, a bit weird for me too. Amelia is a wonderful film, I love it. I fell asleep during the Very Long Engagement, but I will give it another chance when I can. I had to watch them all on DVD ..... The City of Lost Children was my favourite.

Amelie, no question. I watch it about once a month...it's one of my "de-stress" films (along with "Mediterraneo" and "Babbette's Feast"). I love the fact that he put so much work, time and craftsmanship into it. I found Long Engagement too long ...as I told the person who recommended I see it, "It's very well made, and that's why I don't like it." It's just not my taste. And as for City of Lost Children...probably too well made for me (too scary)...haven't seen it yet because of that.
JPJ is a gift to cinema...wish he had more stuff but I understand *why* he doesn't. Good work takes time.

For me its Amelie, I liked Long Engagement but Amelie was brilliant, the first time I saw a really different film in a long time...

I thought that Delicatessen was a little too weird for me (we watched it in French class back in college), so that's why I never saw City of Lost Children.

But I thought Long Engagement was really excellent. Sad, but really excellent. Audrey Tatou really got to break out a bit more with that.
