The meanining is given to you early on you need "balance" in everything in you and around you. That is what they are trying to accomplish in episode 4 through 6 and what they explainin episodes 1 through 3.

There are a lot of meanings that can be read into the Star Wars saga. One of the ones I've been thinking a lot about lately, is that small numbers can cause change. After all the Old Republic was brought down by one Sith Lord and his followers. The opposite is true for the Rebellion, a small band of rebels were led to victory by Luke, Leia, and Han.

As a Star Wars fan, I think the meaning is that love can blind a person and turn them from good to evil. Star Wars also means how politicts, rulers from all over the galaxy has problems and count on specific people ( the Jedi) to help them. May The Force Be With You.

The ultimate messages:

Nobody is beyond saving: that the archtype of darkness, Darth Vader, could find his way back.... I'd been watching the films since I was 12, back in 77.... it was a stunning development for it to resolve this way in 83, and I think the fact that the movies ended on such a redemptive note helped make me an optimist in my life.

love conquers all: Luke's unwillingness to give up on his father is what restores Anakin.

It is a representation of the ever ending battle of good versus evil, except that in Star Wars all the bad guys tend to go out like pansies, Anikin excluded since he returned from his fall from grace.

The whole story is based on how to wield power once you have it. If "the force" is strong within you, it's your decision whether or not to go to the Dark Side. From what I can tell about the series, it's a quicker high and more instant gratification to be on the side of evil. It's much harder and less physically rewarding to be on the side of good, but it is ultimately more satisfying.
