A 600 is more than enough bike to kill a new rider. Not only would a 1000 be an even worse choice but you will actually learn slower because you will be terrified of the twitchiness of the throttle. If you know you plan on riding a sport bike then get a used Ninja 250 or 500. take an MSF corse and go to a few track days. Then by your self a new bike when you will not add to a statistic. It is irresponsible, inappopriate and just plain dumb for any new rider to be legally allowed to opperate any full blown race replica. Modern 600cc SS Machines top out at about 170MPH and will go 0-100 under 5 seconds. 1000cc machines are checking out 184mph and will run to 100 in under 4 seconds. Neither machine is for learning on.

No, it's way too much bike for many experienced riders, much less newbie riders. It'll go from 0-60 mph of around 2.5 sec. Can you imagine letting someone who has never driven before drive a Ferrari Enzo around? And the Enzo has a 0-60 of 3.3 sec.

Most people will drop their first bike at least once, if not multiple times. Better to this going a slow speed than at fast obviously. As a first bike, it's best to get something small and easier to handle. Something more forgiving in which sudden small movements won't result in wadding it into a tree or car. Also, fairings are extremely expensive to replace. A naked bike like an SV650 or GS500E would be great starter bikes.

My brother and I bought 2 new bikes for a summer vacation. His 1200 Bandit leaked gas and ruined the motor before it got 2000 miles. We asked Suzuki to replace the motor so we could go on vacation. They said it’s to expensive and would cost $3000. After 4 months and the vacation gone they got the motor rebuilt at a their cost of $3700. The dealer wanted to replace the motor but Suzuki squashed that. The gas stained cases and burnt exhaust pipes were not replaced. The bike got nicked and scratched all over from being apart for so long. The rep rode it and looked at it, then said it’ good as new. It ran like crap and looked worse. We called Japan for nothing, and even wrote the US CEO all for nothing. We spent $15,000 for the bikes to get Fd. We spent our vacation hassling with Suzuki, and not one person there gave a F! Beware Suzuki’s warranty is not worth the paper it’s printed on! Buy one of their lemons are get Fd like we did!

I would say start with a 650cc at the most. better yet buy an older used bike for your first one, that way you wont feel so bad if it goes down while your learning.

I think you already know the answer to this one. Buy yourself something more basic to begin with.
