I think you are looking at the sticker that says Built for 98/ME/2000 etc. You can do whatever you want. If you buy XP and the computer can handle it you can install and use it (or Linux or any Windows version you have the license for).

Computer manufacterers have the ability to register their PCs with Microsoft and receive certification from Microsoft that the PC is fully compatible with certain versions of Windows and drivers needed for it are on the Windows CD. The sticker on your PC will list all of the versions of Windows the PC is certified to run. It does NOT list what version you are using.

So if wanted to install Windows 2000 on your PC, you are assured that all the drivers you need will be available on the 2000 CD and that all the hardware is compatible with 2000.

you cant read or you have 3 stickers 98; me; 2000 are all different

If you want to know which version of Windows you have, on the desktop, right click the "my computer" icon and select "properties."
