Religion was not the founding basis of this country. Most of the founding fathers were Deists. Ben Franklin left Mass. because of the religious persecution there. The Treaty of Tripoli 1796 states that this country wasn't founded on God. The treaty was ratified by 100% of the Senate. It has been said that the Constitution was based on the 10 commandment. If so the how come only 2 of the commandments are in the document? The Constitution was based on the Magna Carta, old english law, The Iroquois Confederation and common sense and experiance of the drafters.

Are you suggesting that one religious group is defining what marriage should be? What one religious group are you referring to. In every state (I believe at least 16 states - but there are probably more) that have had the marriage issue on the ballot - almost 70% of all the voters tend to agree that marriage should be between and man and a woman. Massachusetts is the only exception that I know of. So I don't know of any single religious group defining marriage in our society.

No. Religion and the government are supposed to be separate. However, for some reason In God We Trust was stamped on everything possible. Maybe back then it didn't mean a certain god, but well not it seems to mean a certain god. No one group, especially a religious group following tainted and several times changed and rewritten beliefs should be allowed to govern over others.
And by the way, that religion wasn't the only one that started the USA. There were several different groups from different countries that started the US. Learn your history or shut up

No.
The better question is should the majority be able to dictate to society what defines marriage based on the majority's religious values. Of course not. That is why we are not a communist country where mob rules. We have laws that protect minority rights.
In this particular situation, the majority is getting special rights by the state (inheritance laws, next of kin rights, taxes, health benefits, etc...) by the state. This is a clear discriminatory situation.
Btw, gay ppl will gladly withdraw their argument/protest if married heteorsexual couples will give up those special rights by the state. They can still be married in their churches.. take thier oaths before GOD... just not receive extra benefits by the state for this. That way they can preserve their definition of traditional marriage all they want..

No, although it is hard to ignore the religious wishes if there is a majority in a country from the same religious group. for instance, a gay-marriage is not possible in the US since the majority is Christian and most of them are against gay-marriage because of religious reasons. but it will be very difficult to define marriage without any religious motives for most people.

You are right the religious right are being so selfish with all those benefits. I think if fags could have the same benefits they would not care about the religious aspects of the questions. Follow the money that is what same sex marriage is all about anyway. Wont it be a wonderful day when we make it illegal to be a Christian, no more crosses, no more 10 commandments. When we can kill baby's and free convicted killers...and the best... legal gay sex with young children.

It is call Moral Fiber, How we define marriage. It is not a group of people, is a society. You can find the group of people with those that want to pervert the real meaning of marriage. Even the human body do not accept the union of same sex, they do not procreate. What makes you think it can be looked as acceptable in our society. Sodom was already destroyed, why we want to destroy ourselves? Let's learn with the example.. You may probably believe that Sodom was part of a fairy tale that is part of a children's book in another group of people... Believe what you want, tell the chicken it looks like a dog, you are not going to alter the truth..

Well one could argue that marriage is a religious tradition. Therefore religion could define it.

No. But then you also have to look and check out what religions believe about marriage. I know of no religion that promotes homosexual marriage. In fact, to even SUGGEST that one is homosexual within certain parts of the world is a sure death sentence.
