I find their music to be very relaxing and hopeful. People call them sad but they're really positive. Their lyrics are often inquisitive and self-reflective which is not a bad thing at all. Is their something wrong with not being aggressive and in your face?
It's true that they sound like a lot of things thrown together, but so does every other band in existence. No band comes into being without first being influenced by some other source of music.

i know coldplay is one of the greatest british followers of the smiths. people just want to hear loud cuse words smeaed together with a big bass in the backround. and if any one questions you on liking coldplay tell them how could a "sucky" band make millions of dollars and have 2-3 top selling albums! some people.

I agree with all you said. Most of the people who dislike Coldplay do it for 2 reasons
1. They think Coldplay are just copy cats who sound way too similar to Radiohead, Oasis, and the Verve
2.There is this common trend in many people to start to immediately dislike any band that makes it big.

Most musicians are influenced by other sources, but they develop their own sound fairly quickly. Coldplay always sounds derivative. Why listen to a pretender, when you can listen to the real thing? (By the way, in response to a previous answer, not all British music "sucks." Grow up and develop some taste, would you please.)

I love Coldplay. I purchased the first CD on a whim and I still listen to it from beginning to end. The music is so soothing and at times inspirational.
I dont know many that hate them, but we all like what we like.

i think the reason why people "Hate" Coldplay is because when the song comes on its slow and people are always i don't want to listen to a slow song so they don't listen and change their radio station. they never even given coldplay a chance. i personally think that they are very relaxing, i listen to them alot especially like if i have an argument or a tough day at work, it relaxes me.

Because they went form an interesting band to something very much like muzak very quickly. They need to evolve a bit more.

They hate coldplay because they have terrible taste in music. Coldplay is awesome and I love all of their music. Congrats on having good taste in music!

I agree with you. Coldplay is great, I love listening to their music.. I don't know why people say that about them though.

Coldplay is one of my favorite bands. They are one of the few bands that can get me unstressed in less than two songs :)
