He is finally able to hold down some water. Yet his stomach still aches.
How long does this last?
Any recommendations?

if he can now hold down fluid he is on the road to recovery

probably about another 3-4 days before he feels well - he might feel drained for a few more days

if he isnt holding down fluids by now he needs medical treatment - probably an injection to stop vomitting and possibly some iv fluid treatment

if he can take fluids get a commercial electrolyte solution and he should drink on this constantly - you can add some extra sugar too if he can tolerate it

try to get him to drink at least 750 ml an hour

he can try a small amount of dry toast or crackers perhaps in another 6 hours and should be able to tolerate food again in another 24 hours

if vomitting re occurs seek medical attention - he may have diarrhea on and off for a day or so - as long as it is not too bad and he is taking in plenty of fluids he should be ok.

Take him to the hospital: He is still in danger of dehydration. They may be able to help him recover faster, and with less pain.

If you don't, he's still going to have trouble for at least another day.

Good luck!

I'm supposing that he doesn't want to go to the hospital because of no insurance? If he can afford to go, he should. But if he's refusing to go, get him some pedialyte from the drugstore. It will help him re-hydrate.
