I live in Bloomington, IL and would love to live in Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, LA, San Diego, San Francisco, or in California in general (preferrably southern).

Try to get a job lined up and check ads or Internet for roommate wanted Many people are like yourself they can't afford to pay rent so they find someone to help share expenses.

Get your expectations in order. You could make double your salary, but housing and other expenses so much higher, you will have less space, less free time, and less "fun money" left over.

In Los Angeles, middle-of-the-road apartments can easily cost $1500-$2000 a month for a one-bedroom, maybe $1200 for a 500 square foot studio. Hopefully, you are married, or have someone you could split such a small place with.

It's a little better in bad areas (bring your own roach spray, or your own gun) and in areas that are far from the city (but that's not unlike where you are now, except with heat, not snow!)

I can't kid you here. It's a tough transition, even if you already have a job lined up.

LA is very expensive. Rent is high (don't even think about buying a house), gas is high and you have to have a car, everything but food is taxed, entertainment is outrageous and you have to pay for parking in most places.

The things that I found cheaper: fresh produce, salon services (nails and hair), and wine is very inexpensive.

Did I mention that the pay does not match the cost of living?

If you are lower middle class in IL, you will live in poverty in LA.

Um you do understand that there are various 2d and third technology Hispanics that went to varsity/have a white collar activity, etc.? it is not basically all immigrant households all cramming into one abode. i understand many hispanic docs, instructors, criminal experts, managers, etc., and various Hispanic households that stay in prosperous cities/aspects of Southern California. it certainly relies upon on what section you're staring at--as an occasion in case you head to East l. a. or South l. a. you're greater possibly to make certain undesirable Hispanic immigrants, yet once you head further east to Rancho Cucamonga, Arcadia, Whittier, Upland, Covina Hills, etc. you will see various 2d and third technology Hispanics residing in upscale neighborhoods. different aspects additionally might incorporate Chino Hills, San Dimas, some Orange County neighborhoods, Ventura County cities, etc. greater "worldwide" nicely of Hispanics stay in the classic l. a. prosperous aspects likes Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, etc. What various posters are doing right this is stereotyping rather than drawing logical conclusions (that approximately 30-40% of each year community college graduates are Hispanic), that includes Hispanics being in larger paying occupations via training, adventure/history, etc.. Southern California is unique in that it has a mix of exceedingly knowledgeable Hispanics alongside with cutting-edge immigrants--no longer even long island or Texas comes on the factor of emulating the fulfillment Hispanics have had in California ordinarily. Asians have been powerful (in certainty arguably greater so)besides. in case you seem at states in the U.S. with upward mobility opportunities, California ranks rather extreme--extraordinarily while in comparison with the South, Northeast, and Midwest, in that order.

One needs lost of money to afford living in California... Or else come and live in gang/crime infested neighborhoods in subsidized housing... Or have ten family members all working, supporting and taking turns living under the same roof. Please do yourself and your family a big favor and stay out of California... I cannot comment on Florida for I have never lived there...

You can't. Either you become insanely rich fast, or you move here, hate it becaues of the lack of money and/or job, and end up moving back. I live in the OC, I'd know. Unless you have a plan of attack, just moving here will cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Many people are getting interest only home loans. Your payment is lower, but nothing is being paid on your principle amount borrowed - but they also believe they will get their money back when/if they sell, since properties are so high there.
