The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Winery:
* Winery Technology and Operations:A Handbook for Small Wineries by Yair Margalit
* From Vines to Wines: The Complete Guide to Growing Grapes and Making Your Own Wine by Jeff Cox

Deli:
* Start Your Own Restaurant (and Five Other Food Businesses) by Entrepreneur Press, Jacquelyn Lynn
* Restaurant Financial Basics by Raymond S. Schmidgall
* Opening a Restaurant or Other Food Business Starter Kit: How to Prepare a Restaurant Business Plan and Feasibility Study by Sharon Fullen

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

I dunno. Deli or winery? How about starting aomething even more interesting, like a skate park or a gag-gift shop. (ex: Spencer's gifts.) We definitly need more places like that. Especially the skate park. I can't find one freakin' one where I live. Anyway, to start that winery or deli, just buy cheep supplies, give 'em a little tweek, and sell 'em for way more than they originally cost. Haha. lol.

go to a large city, perhaps in europe, and see what people go for, and how you could offer it and improve on it. get a good location, and be sure you make a good cup of coffee.
