Store cards are (or were) easier to get, so start there...but they have a much higher interest rate. Try a gas card, same high rate but if smart you pay if off at the end of the month (since you pretty much know how much you put in a month...and that is if you drive)

I started with a store account, but you can also get a secured credit card. Then after a while, they start giving you a little credit at a time.

I believe a credit card would be more advantageous. Credit cards are reported to all national credit agencies (Equifax etc.) and this is what business, employers look at when deciding your credit worthiness, risk, and credit score.

The store credit will help you get an unsecured credit card because you will use that store as a reference.

I think getting one major credit card either Visa or MasterCard would be the best way. If you prove yourself with either one it will help you down the road with getting any other card you might need or want. I would go with a bank issued card though.
Store cards are good later on when they have promotional, if you use their card, you can get a discount.
The major thing is, don't get in too deep with any card !!!!!

Pay with cash or a debit card. Credit/debt is killing America. All you "need" credit for is a mortgage, and if you have 2 years of paying your rent on time and a steady job you will qualify for a mortgage.

I would start by getting a Target card, they also have a visa card and it's easy to pay back...and they will give you a limited amount to start with.
