You can only change the processor if the new processor is compatible with your motherboard. If the motherboard is not meant for your processor you WILL spoill your motherboard and cpu. If it is compatible however, then open up the case, unscrew the cpu fan, open the cpu lock, take the old one out, swap the new one in, lock the cpu lock, screw the new cpu's fan in, and close the computer.

Hopefully your computer boots up if it doesn't then ask another question ; ).

hope that helps

Check the documentation (or the web site of the maker) of your system board. It will tell you what all processors can be used in the board. The board may not be able to run an 800 mhz processor. Also, with each new generation of processors the shape, size and number for pins on the bottom of the processor may vary. So you will need to know what "socket" (the space the processor fits in) you have in your PC. The 800 mhz processor will have to be the same socket.

If your board is able to use an 800 mhz processor and the socket type is the same, the system board documentation should show you how to remove the heat sink, take out the old processor, put in the new processor and replace the heat sink. It is actually a fairly simple process. It will also tell if you have to chance any switches or jumpers on your system board to reset the board to the higher speed.

So the simple answer is - check your system board's manual.

sounds like you havea pentium 3 with a 100 mhz fsb, the old computers had jumpers to set the speed and multiplier on the motherboard so you will have to look at the motherboard and get the model number and check the specs, while you are in the case replace the battery cr2032. When you have the specs you can see what you can upgrade to just be sure the bus speed as a 1000 comes in both speeds but if the multiplier is not set it appears like a 700 mhz, also install the max amount of memory
