I had a suspicion the case for the innocent unborn would be made. How about that 16 year old kid who grew up in horrific circumstances and murdered someone?

I honestly don't know the answer.

I'm a conservative...

I'm pro-choice (though I would never have an abortion myself because I'd feel terrible about it). I don't think tax dollars should pay for abortions though.

I also believe in capital punishment.....it's cheaper than life in prison. If someone murdered or raped somebody I love I would want them dead. If that makes me a bad person...so be it!

I'm not religious either....and I'm highly educated with a great job too...so to the above responder, I'm not stupid.

Wannabeteacher...No...please you have know need to worry! The first responder clearly implied ALL conservatives are stupid....some are....but I don't consider myself stupid that's all. Who knows, maybe I am! LOL There are smart conservatives, and smart liberals and stupid ones in both groups (as with any group in life...you can't make generalizations like that).

I get irriated with the political generalizations....we all have different views, and that's ok. That's what is nice about living in a relatively FREE society. To each, their own. We're all in this together, and none of us know all the answers.

Mariners...where do you get your figures from...? I'm interested....if that's the case...life in prision would be cheaper for the tax payers....but I still feel like I would want justice done if someone murdered someone I care about. I wouldn't want that person "living it up in prison" wathcing movies, getting free education, working out, socializing....while my loved one is 6 feet under.

I know they have it backwards

I'm pro-choice because while I personally wouldnt want to have an abortion, I recognize that only GOD knows if a fertilized embryo is a person yet. There is no possible way any human being can answer that so it is up to the woman to decide.

This means we do not know it is murder.

Then I am anti-death penalty because that is outright murder. I don't believe we should become barbarians just because the murderers are AND I believe only GOD has the right to take a life.

(Notice how your pro-life answerers will probably avoid using the MURDER word against this argument. Why? Because they know the death penalty is murder no matter what excuse you make. Just like when they say abortion is ok in rape and incest... they basically believe murder is ok when they say it is)

I especially find the answer below mine interesting because basically he is saying, "its ok to murder when it is for the betterment of society" Hum, I'm sure a lot of pregnant 16 year olds or older women who already have 5 kids would argue that their being able to have an abortion is for the betterment of socieyt. I'm sure the crack addicted HIV mother would also argue that.

But no no, once again, they want to be the only ones to decide what is or is not a betterment of society or when murder is or is not ok.

A fetus is not alive, and there is no arguing it. Before the second trimester, if you take that baby off the umbilical cord, it will die. It needs a host cell (mother) to live. A fetus can be likened to a virus, which as of right now is not considered a living thing. My view on abortion is that it should be allowed, as I believe in freedom, but I do not condone it. I am also against the death penalty because it just costs too much money.

Life in prison is 300,000.
Death Penalty is 1,000,000+

Because an unborn child is an innocent. A person who has received the death penalty has been found guilty of taking a life. Comparing an unborn child to a convicted killer, not much of a comparison. Of course all life is precious in God's eyes, however, the convicted killer has forfeited his right to live amongst us.

Gem, are you talking about me? I'm not quite sure how my anwer is offensive to you? I am conservative and answered the question from a conservative, Christian standpoint, but certainly meant no offense to one who is neither of these things. I certainly did not imply that anyone is stupid?

Is pretty simple....The death penalty is about justice against a cold blooded killer who is a disgrace to society. Abortion is the killing of an innocent baby who will never get the chance to experience life. The question you should be asking is why are pro-choice liberals against the death penalty.

Pro-life, pro-death penalty conservatives would see the two positions as being completely congruent.

For them, abortion amounts to a woman killing a child merely because the woman did not use protection (most pro-life conservative would make an exception in the case of rape or incest). In essence, the child is being murdered for the carelessness and mere inconvenience of the mother.

In the case of the death penalty, they would likely view an execution as the natural consequence warranted by the act of killing another person. In essence, a person who by his or her own action has chosen to take the life of another is being punished for that choice.

So to them, the child is being punished for his or her parents' choice, whereas a murderer is being punished for his or her own choice.

Simply put pro-life pro-death penalty conservatives believe that people should suffer the consequences of their own actions.

Because it's the murdering of a child before it even has a chance to be born. There are plenty of families that are willing to adopt. It's a cowardly way out of a life giving situation. As for someone on death row.............he more than likely killed someone or a number of people to put himself there. He should be taken out of society and made an example of, for his actions. I think we should go back to the western days of hanging. You see someone that killed someone swinging from the gallows and hopefully you'll learn that its wrong to kill. They both represent the same answer that murder is a crime and should not be tolerated on any level. At least someone on death row was given an option not to put themselves there. An aborted child does not receive that option. Good question and God Bless.

Maybe if we fund more abortions then we'll have less cases of death penalties? That's the argument in "Freakonomics" anyway. Actually its because pro-lifers (I hate that term, it was founded by the abortionists) believe that the act of making love is antecedent (means beforehand and related to) to having a baby, be responsible - don't do one without being able to handle the other. Death penalty is because they don't want people who would act in that manner entering their homes and doing the same thing to them or their families.

One supports life for the pure and innocent, while the other supports punishment for the predators of society who endanger the innocent.

I trust that you understand that we are not executing "good" people, although in many cases, their mothers inevitably tell us what a good boy their murderous sons were (forgetting their long criminal records, of course).

I'm not saying that I agree, but probably because they feel a fetus hasn't lived yet, but someone on death row messed up their life and deserves to die.
