I heard it first in the movie "Coach Carter", paraphrased by the character Timo Cruz in response to the Coach repeatedly asking him "What is your deepest fear?" I think it answers your question pretty well. I've placed a URL leading to the original poem below:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Humananity as a whole is unfamiliar with happiness. Have you ever noticed that if we are happy we feel a sense that something is wrong. Isn't it that at our highest peaks we fight or argue with others. Or do Something to screw it up. Think of those parties with family/ friends how they sometimes end in fights. My psychology professor once told us this information. I believe this to be a theory.
