Also, if you have access to a library, they may have books on American History. Find more books on American History at online book dealers.

are you allowed to narrow your topic? Writing an essay adequately encompasing all of American History is impossible. You'd need to write several books to do that. I would pick one or two significant U.S. events and report in-depth on those. You'll be able to find a lot of information on things like the American Revolution and World Wars I and II.

OR you could pick several different events throughout history and show how they are interconnected. Maybe you can focus on an international event in which the the U.S. played a significant role, thus altering world history.

Bottom line? Don't try to cover everything, it won't be thorough and your essay will be scattered. Ask about narrowing your topic to a specific event and it's consequences. You'll be able to find more information to work with.

You can mention that the U.S.A. was founded on the idea that all people are created equal. On the ideas that freedom of speech and freedom of religion, among other things, are our God given and inalienable rights. That our government (democracy) be of the people, by the people, and for the people. These things we could not have in England or elsewhere. We came here to escape tyranny and oppression and create a society where we are free to choose, free to compete, and free to grow. This country is made up of people all religions, races, and ethnic backgrounds. "Give us your tired, your poor, your downtrodden". We, as a society, are not perfect. But we're not doing too bad either.
