...Is it safe at Rosarito Beach.... Is it safe to go and eat dinner there (we don't like lobster...I'm thinking more like tacos).... Do you know anything about horseback riding there? (I think we'd want to do that.) We'd only be going down for 1 day-- leaving early and returning, hopefully, before dark. What else is there? Thanks in advance for your answers... I always come back to see what everyone writes. :-)

Trust me it is well worth it. Senior Frogs is the best spot there. If you drink you'll spend about $10 dls to have a great time. The hotels are nice and they do have some nice sea food restaurants and taquerias. It's about an hour drive at the most from S.D. and there are plenty of tacos! it's Mexico!!! You should leave the night before and sleep in Rosarito then leave the next day after dark. It's not dangerous since there are always people traveling those roads. Good luck and have fun.

In spite of the warnings about border towns from Washington, from folks who've never been there, Rosarito is a nice little town to visit. Half hour drive from Chula Vista. Horseback riding is available, lots of taco stands, cantinas, some clubs. The Rosarito Beach Hotel is worth a visit and the Salon nearby has folkloric entertainment on weekends. Good shopping street, Arts and Crafts market is next door to El Nido restaurant, worth a visit just for the funky decor, nice bar, friendly people. Have fun!

Rosarita is about 1/2 hour into Mexico past the border(Tijhuana).
It seems safe ,has nice beaches, good dining. I don't recall any horses on the beach mostly they rent quads . You can get local style cuisine if you prefer. There is not an awful lot to do there. Mostly people drink eat, stroll along the beach and leave. If you don't care for foreign cultures you'd have a better time heading north to Malibu.
The locals have advised me it is not safe after dark to go strolling down their streets. Is it worth it? considering the short drive probably but it all depends on what you like.
