Last night I dreamt that I was a child, maybe 10 to 12 and I was in my house with my parents (this house was different, I ususally dream of houses I've lived in, I didn't know this place.) When I'd go upstairs alone I'd crawl up and peek over the top step and this man in a painting would look at me (looked kind of like a playing card king) and he'd leap out of the painting. I ran and told my mother, but she didn't believe me of course, and when I went up with her, he wouldn't move. It was only when I was alone that he'd come after me. After a couple times, I told my mom I wanted to see a shrink and he told me (in the dream) what it means and I woke up. I want to see if anyone here can come close to what the shrink in my dream said so I know if it's true or not. Also, I don't knowif this matters, but everytime I ran to my mom for protection, in the dream, she was cooking in the kitchen.

I think your mom is your super ego creating food for your soul. The "thou shalt not do this! Thou shalt do this! etc etc.
You run to those things you have been inculcated with as fimiliar and good, that should guide you through life within the boundaries of good, healthy, and safe behavior.
The new house is a new place you are at in life that is a bit scary for you. It is unknown territory in life for you. It is disconcerting to you. YOu seek guidance form the things that you know to help you with the new circumstances you deal with: you run to mother. The fact that she doesn't believe you means that your emotional state is in a struggle dealing with the new circumstances and that you are in denial that your rules of life will aide you through out the new new life you embark upon and fear.
The shrink in your dream is a rational part of you trying to assess whether you should be where you are at, in the state you are in. He/she should give you aide for the coming turmoil you are embarking upon. I could not tell you what he/she said because I don't know what is troubling you. I don't know if you fears are rational or irational. I don't know if you want to move beyond the mental state you are at, or remain where you are at. I don't know if it is even good to forge ahead or stay where you are at. You have to do the soul searching anfd figure out what you want to do and whether it is healthy for you. To what end are you embarking upon this? Will it make you a better persoon? and will it give you a new and better place where you can be at home and at rest with yourself.

Let me analyze this dream for you..
When you dream back as a child, more or less, the dream is about your childhood or something happend to your childhood that stays in your mind.
House = strange place you have never been = new environment
Painting = art = things we admire
man coming out of the painting = surprise or fantasy
Mom = someone closed to you, could be anyone
Showing up only when you are alone = secret
In this dream, you are looking for trust and attention. You go to this house, house you never knew and you discover a lot of things that are so new and you want to share with people. However, you are getting it directly, so subconsciously you project a surprise image from painting and use that as your excuse and want attention from. Also, you want trust from your mom. You have lots of hidden secret and you want to reveal, but deep down you supress the feeling. You unconsciously tell that painting man to disappear when third person is around. In other words, there may be something or secret that you do not want to tell eventhough you know you really need attention.
In conclusion: Trust, Attention are what I see in your dream. Mom can be anyone that is close to you. And you want that person to share what you know, see, and have. You also want that person to pay full attention to you.
I could be wrong, but that is how I see from your dream

I'd say that the dream represents how even loved ones might abandon you temporarily, even if they love you. To abandon someone, all you have to do is not believe them. In the dream you deeply believe you saw this event at first, but then you start to believe that you are simply seeing things and that your subconscious might hold some message for you to uncover.
The fact that what you see is a painting doing some random event as you described is irrelevant, all that matters is that you told your mom about it, and she didn't believe you. All of us experience this feeling at times, where we absolutely believe something with all of our heart, and the closest person to us doesn't believe you.
The riddle in all of this is not what seeing the king in the painting means, it is finding the balance between believing what you see and trusting the observations of those around you, especially the ones you love.

I believe your dream represents your need for freedom in your mother's house. The man coming out of the portrait represents a situation that is surprising or interesting to you, and your mother wishes to keep a stable home. Perhaps you told her something recently that could be construed as shocking.
The fact that you're young represents vulnerability or even inquisitiveness. Perhaps you wish to seek new avenues and your mother is a symbol of stopping you.
If your dream psychiatrist told you something sexual, perhaps it's your awakening into sexual maturation -- something your mother is symbolically set against.

Maybe you have issues with your mother to start, like you are 'the boy who cried wolf' Also maybe there is somebody who is manipulating you or is being two faced. Normal when others are around but screwing with you when you are in a one on one situation.
