Usually ASL on instant messaging stands for Age,Sex,Location. I'm guessing you're wondering why is it that deaf people don't type ASLD for Age,Sex,Location,Deaf. I'm sure that way a lot more deaf people would be able to recognize and speak to each other. But it would probable get complicated because everyone would not know what it meant at first and it is probably just easier to go to messanging or chatting place like deafchat.com made specifically to target deaf/hoh people.

I'm not deaf but my brother is. He doesn't use the computer so I can't see him using Yahoo Messenger in the near future but thanks for asking. Have a good day.

When people type asl? at me, I just ignore them. Frankly, it's usually none of their business.
