legally it is defined as following, harrassing or unwanted contact (in most states, although you can look up the statutes in your own state to make sure).

check out this website it has links to other sites and lots of information:

What I will do is give you the law version first.
Menacing by Stalking: No person by engaging in a pattern of conduct shall knowingly cause another person to believe that the offender will cause mental distress to the other person.
No person, through the use of any electronic method of remotely transferring information including but not limited to any computer computer network,.
Now if he is calling you get a police report for telephone harassment, then go to your local prosecutors office with that and get a restraining order. The worst thing you could do is not call the Police and get his name on paper.

Stalking is emotionally quite complicated and can cause more concern than is justified. Lets consider a few scenarios

Supposing the man/boy was tall, dark and handsome and your dream formula (a bit like me hehe) and appeared every morning going to work at the same time as you and sometimes even sharing a compartment with you on the train. Your fragile heart skips a beat every time you see him but being a lady never show it. He often looks at you and smiles, and again your heart is a flutter! You would be very happy to see this man, and you would not say he was a stalker.

In truth suppose I told you that every morning he watched out through the key hole in his front door waiting for you to start out to work, timing his exit to match yours, suddenly, is he a stalker or one who is "keen" on you? You would excuse his behaviour because his presence is pleasing to your eye. Stalker? no way he is hot! (or whatever your team is)

After you part on the train the "hot" boy goes to his work, stealing cars!

Now lets take exactly the same scenario but the good looking TDH fellow is now short fat and greasy. When he smiles at you in the mornings he has gaps in his teeth, the fellow likes you after all you are very pretty!

He does the same as the boy at the keyhole, times his exit, smiles etc etc. Is he a stalker? you might be accusing him as a stalker!

When he leaves the train, he goes to his work, caring for the blind children at the orphanage.

Judgement, is suddenly very complicated and we not only have to judge the accused but also our own mind. In truth they both stalk! boys/men do to some extent! (When at college I used to time my bus journey to coinside with a very pretty girl! we went out, eventually !!! )

There are obvious examples of stalking, cars crawling along the road etc, but one has to be very careful identifying a stalker, and judgement purely on looks unfair and misleading. All people have feelings, respect and reaction of those feelings a matter of experience.

First reaction to a stalker or similar should be a friendly word and if necessary explain that you have no interest in them. Statistically he is going to be a normal fellow that likes you because you are pretty!

Stalking laws probably vary from state to state. In my state it is defined to be more than one unwanted contact.

Therefore, if the person knows you don't want them around and they do it just one more time, that's stalking.

Someone that is constantly following you around, keeping tabs on you pretty much all the time. Like an ex boyfriend. If this is happening, then you need to involve the police. Nothing good will come out of this...so get the authorities involved. Make sure your windows and doors stay locked at all times....and check them every day. Usually you'll know the stalker......so please be careful. I wish you the best of luck..........

Stalking is when someone will not leave you alone and wants to make your life miserable. They will go to any extreme to do it no matter what. They will find a way to get your new phone number or address, whatever it takes to know what and when you are doing something.

You find your bed has been slept in, your underwear is missing and an fugly red dress and black pumps that you haven't bought or wouldn't be caught dead in are hanging in your closet.

If you have experienced all of the above then you should contact your local police.

If he's a true stalker you will not be able to 'wish-him-away into-the-cornfield".
Consult your local law-enforcement officials about stalking.
If you're serious about finding a remedy for this matter, then you need to so something TODAY!!!
