No, it is *not* okay. A baby does *not* need water, and water will fill her up so that she isn't as hungry for nursing which she *really* needs. Your milk is mostly water at the beginning of a feeding, and she will nurse as she needs to to get both plenty of water and lots of nutrition, as well.

What's more, water *won't* prevent dehydration. Babies need electrolytes (minerals that help her absorb the water properly) with their water. They get that with human milk.

The problem with giving water is that they are empty calories. Most pediatricians will tell you that the focus should be to get your child to always consume nutritional calories -- especially when she's only 3 months old. Formula or breast milk will meet her hydration needs. Given your climate, she will probably consume more liquids than babies in other parts of the country.

As long as it doesn't fill her up and preventing her from taking the adequate amount of formula/breastmilk for her age then why not. If she's breastfed she doesn't need any water. Breastmilk has enough to keep her hydrated. Now formula is another story

Yea I used to give my baby some water because I felt like all that formula was giving her a nasty film in her mouth.... the doctors dont want you to feed water to babies becasue they are worried that the water will flush the nutrients right out of her.

Don't give her empty calories. She is growing very quickly at this age. The AAP says that she doesn't need anything but breastmilk or formula at this age. Both breastmilk and formula are mostly water and will not only help her grow, they will keep her hydrated.

Definitely. The earlier they start drinking water, the better. Beginning it early encourages them drinking it as a habit later in life.

It is good to start your baby on water now. She will develop a taste for it. I started my children on water when they first came home (I would boil it and let it sit till room temp),they drink water to this day.

Absolutely. Make sure it is clean, filtered, or purified so there is nothing to upset her tummy in it.
