For me it is, hands down, JK Rowling. But I wanted to see who everyone else really dislikes. Please explain why you don't like a certain author...their style? their plot? their characters?...and maybe reccomend a better read.

Hmmm...I hadn't thought of Paris Hilton. But did she even write it? Something tells me she's too stupid to pick up a pencil.

Sorry if I scared anyone about the whole JK Rowling thing. But me and my friend are official members of the Anti-Potter Club. So far, there are two members...us.

I dislike any writer that takes a whole paragraph describing what someone is wearing or doing, not unless it's important in the story in some way. I like for writers to get straight to the point. I don 't care what color jacket that Jim wore or how the weather was unless their describing the beginning of a hurricane or something. I try to stay away from those type of writers.

I don't know if he's the worst writer, but I will never, ever read The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, which brings me to say that I would never read anything else he has written either. I think the whole hoopla over that piece of garbage is the worst thing that has happened to the literary field since Harry Potter. Every time I open my Sunday paper's book section and see it still on the NY Times best seller list, I wanna puke!!! I'm not a huge fan of Hemmingway, although I have liked a couple of pieces he has written. A better question would be- who is the best writter ever? I think I may pose that one.

In addition to that, I usually shy away from books that have the Oprah Book of the Month club seal on it. And, I don't take recommendations from people who read these types of books. I read my own book reviews and base my opinions based on my readings on those reviews I have read. And, from people who read material like I do who have made recommendations in the past that I have liked.

Start with some classics. If you like American Lit, try reading the National Book Award winners. They're always good. One of my all time favorite novels was Cold Mountain. Just finished reading Tortilla Curtain. Great book! John Updike just came out with a new book that's supposed to be good. His whole Rabbit Run series was excellent! How about short fiction? Raymond Carver, Sandra Cisnero, Flannery O'Connor, Tim O'Brien, Margaret Atwood, Tobias Wolff? There's too much good fiction out there to waste your time reading garbage.

Ann Rand would be high (low?) on my list of worst authors.

And I'm sorry, but I've tried many times to read Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying." Something about his style just will not seep into my brain. My eyes are moving across the page, but nothing is registering. Maybe it's the characters and their history that continue from one work to another.

I know that he's a classic American author, but give me Hemingway or Fitzgerald any day, and keep Faulkner back in Yoknapatawpha (sp, I know) County.

The worst writer I have ever had the pleasure to come across was Richard Laymon. I read a book of his called To Wake the Dead from the library last year and oh my god, it was awful. It was basically horror porn. It was the trashiest form of writing and the story sucked. It ruined my chances of getting to see his better work but you know what? If that book was any indication about him as a writer, I never want to read anything of his again.
P.S. J.K. Rowling? HOW DARE YOU!

I think the worst writer is Sue Monk Kidd. She wrote "The Secret Life of Bees."

She seems to see things threw rose color glasses.

The books takes place in the '60s down south. To be quick: a 14 year old white girl runs away from home and goes to live with four black women she doesn't know! These women actually take her in.

If i remember correctly the girl gets to live with the women happily ever after.

I'm mistrusting of kid's series authors that can crank a book out in like a month. Like the woman who writes The Babysitter's Club series. She has written nearly 200 books in about 20 years!

To answer a question like that you would have had to read a sample of every author who ever wrote a book. To do otherwise you would be just going on the books you have read and not judging the others

Danielle Steele. My brother and I were traveling in Europe and the hostel had a Danielle Steele novel. We read a few pages out loud. "Letters from 'Nam" One part described how "her eyes stabbed at him like M-16 bayonets" and then described her rage as she ran up the stairs and talked about how "lightly" her footfalls were. In her rage. It was like additional descriptive adjectives or anything was somehow better. Horrible. My favorite is Doestoevsky "The Idiot". A different style from a different time, but excellent characters.

John Milton - overblown, windbag. Try reading "Paradise Lost" sometime and you'll see what I mean.

Paris Hilton wrote a book? Omigod!!! Must be at the second grade level because I doubt she could write anything above that.
