It's ok if your baby isn't exactly eight months old when you start feeding him/her food where the recommended age is eight months.
Some babies eat different foods much earlier, some much later. Neither of my children ate the rice/oatmeal cereals that were recommended as the first food babies should eat. So, after several tries with that cereal, I started them on jar food which they both loved. My son never ate the foods labeled "ONE" for his age group b/c he ate so much at each sitting (he's not overweight, just a hungry eater!).
It all depends on your baby. If he/she is eating his/her food w/a good appetite and if he/she was able to eat thicker rice cereal, the texture of the "3" foods should be ok to introduce to him/her now! Hooray!
Just open a jar, try a few bites, and see what happens. The food is not thick enough to cause the baby to choke. It's only slightly more texturized and it doesn't have any unnecessary levels of vitamins or anything like that.
If your baby shows signs of being ready as I mentioned above, try it out.
Relax, have fun, your baby will too!!
Much success to you and your little one!
God bless!!

Okay, most people have this illusion that months are 4 weeks long, and in truth, only one month is about 75% of the time. And that month is February.
This is where women get the wrong idea that they are pregnant 10 months, well if you're pregnant 10 months, then a year is 13 months long, which everyone knows that it's not. Here is the math:
There about approximately 52 weeks in a year, if months were only 4 weeks long, there'd be 48 weeks in a year, since they're not, we must realize then, that months are 4.3333 or 4 1/3 weeks long. You can argue about the 4 week falsehood till you're blue in the face but would you like to not get paid for 4 weeks of work every year? That's what you're equating this to. By the way, a 4 week "month" is what you call a lunar month, and I, nor most people in the world, use lunar calendars.
Now that we see that months are actually 4 1/3 weeks long on AVERAGE:
31 weeks/ 4 1/3 weeks = 7.15 months
Now we know your son just turned 7 months, if we want to get the approximate days (remember months are 30-31 days except February) it's some simple math from here:
0.15 months * 4 1/3 months = 0.65 weeks
0.65 weeks * 7 days in a week = 4.5 days
So I can guess that your son is 7 months and 4-5 days old.
This is the system you should use when checking ages on foods and appropriateness (but really you should be watching him for signs to see if he's ready as age is deceiving).
It's easy to know when he's 8 months because it's 8 months from his date of birth, etc etc.
So in short:
Months are 4 1/3 weeks long.
Watch your son for signs of readiness, age isn't always reliable.
Lunar months are 4 weeks long, please stop using them.

Simple math. He is 7 months old. 4 weeks is 28 days. Most months are 30-31 days...so really a month is about 4 and a half weeks, not four weeks exactly. Go by months. Its time to stop thinking about him in terms of weeks. He is too old and it makes it complicated.

If it's a food concern and you are really worried then wait a couple of weeks before you give him a new food. Honestly though, like me, you are going by the book a little too much. Please don't take that the wrong way I catch myself doing it all the time being a first time Mother. For example, I fed my daughter beef at 7 months then read you should wait on beef until they are 10+ months. She's still alive and very healthy and her Dr said it really is not a big deal. At 7 months they really can eat anything that any baby can eat under the age of 1.
The main things you really have to worry about are no milk until they are 1, no egg whites, shell fish, peanut butter until they are older. Food that are highly allergic.

It's simple math. There are more than 28 days in a month. 28 days is 4 weeks. A month is about 4 1/3 weeks, *not* 4. (52/12=4 1/3.)

What month was your baby born in? Count 8 months from that month and that is when you can give him/her the foods safe for 8 month olds. I'm not sure which foods you are referring to though since I can't remember any being safe for one age and not the other?

30 and 31 days in months.
Everything will come out in the wash at 52 weeks, which is a year, by your math would be 13 months.
Wow?!?!

once you get past a certain time, you don't do weeks any more, just the exact date month by month. there are not the same amount of days in every month. going by weeks is WAY too confusing!! :)
