it seems that Good is called Evil and Evil is called good. People try to blame the United States for the Faceless Cowards that attacked us on 9/11, They excuse criminals, and defame patriots who are serving their country. It is sick. I wish we could return to the values that made America great. Freedom, Responsibility, Hard Work, and belief in God. With out faith and values we can not keep a free republic.

You liberals need it explained to you again I see. Nothing new the libs rarely get it on the first try. I said nothing about Christianity. I said a belief in God that could mean anything from Christianity to Hinduism. It doesn't matter so long as you have a belief in something bigger than your self, a standard by which your moral compass is set. Get it now?

I agree with you, and so do a great many others. We're known as the silent majority, and even though many do choose to keep quiet, we are watching and listening. Ignore the loud mouths who are the minority - big mouths are all they have!

Actually, it was the U.S.'s fault that we were attacked on 9/11. It may not have been americans flying those planes, but it was just a matter of time before some group attacked. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

All the values you have stated are great. However, there are many reasons why the U.S. seems to be going down the toilette hole.
1.) "I Shop, therefore I am" The U.S. is a nation addicted to overconsumption. People will do everything they can to have the latest and greatest. Yesterday's model is never good enough. Things are more important than people or family.

2.) The over-consumption culture has been limited to a very small portion (mostly white) of the population. The majority of the rest of the population struggles just to make ends meet.

3.) The Patriot Act--thanks to our current government, thousands (maybe millions) of U.S. citizens can no longer get jobs. To legally get a job now, you have to have a state I.D. There is a large group of homless men and women who cannot get a state I.D. because they do not have a copy of their birth certificate. To get a copy of your birth certificate, you need a state I.D. So, they can't get work anymore, not even to scrub toilettes. Some states will issue birth certificates to NPO's, such as churches. However, it takes so long for the paperwork to go through, that the individual gets lost to the streets before they ever get it.

4.) The majority of politicians are white. There a lot of things that white people will never understand because they are unaware of the preferential treatment they receive. It's impossible to know how to "fix" America if you didn't grow up in the inner city.

And the list goes on. If you are interested in this stuff, you should read "The Soul of Politics" by Jim Wallis

And then Ben S tells lies about 45% of the population. That's good morals.

Without morals, yes, we are lost. Those morals don't have to come from Christianity. Buddhists have great morals. I know atheists that are very moralistic. I know a lot of Christians that have high morals.

I just don't like someone saying that want to save marriage while they're having an affair. I don't want someone to say they're fighting the war on terror while they prop up a regime who allows textbooks in their schools that preach hatred of America. While I know full well that not all American soldiers are bad, if a select few did rape a 14 year old girl, then they need to be severely punished and not celebrated as heroes (as I have seen some do on this forum).

Why so pessimistic all the sudden, Ethan. Haven't you been complaining about all the people focused on America's negative points? Personally, despite some inherent hypocracy and some people who prefer insults to open discussion, and despite a war that being so poorly executed, and despite no-bid contracts going to the very company that pays the Vice President a salary, I think America's doing pretty well.

Its gone south. The far left has taken a grip on the Democrat party and saying everything is cool. Need more tolerance dude.......well I believe there needs to be a little more balance. I certainly don't want to go back to the days where women wore gloves everywhere, but I think the trash you see today is just a bit too far over the edge. Its cool to be stupid. I certainly don't get that one. I guess they will need a whole lot of ditch diggers in the future, the kids that are intelligent today will be the leaders and I'm seeing a very large sheep population growing which will be lead much too easily.

America today has two values: Wealth and Celebrity. I fear that until we stop obsessing over those two we simply won't have room for anything else.

I would, however, disagree somewhat with your assessment about belief in god. In that there seems to be more followers of god espousing with more zeal then there has been since the days of puritan witch trials. Unfortunately most of these 'new school' Christians have abandoned Christ's command to help the poor and infirm. They'd rather spend all day spouting hate about non-Christians then aspire to the mercy, love and forgiveness of Jesus.

Nowhere. It's still here alive and well. What's gone wrong is our media. Ever since Watergate with Nixon when they realized the power of ratings the news has been out of hand. Right now the US Media is so far out of touch with the general American public it's insane. Hollywood also suffers from this problem and that's why they've had problems with declining movie ticket sales. Though this summer seems to have picked up a bit.
But my life is a lot nicer when I turn off the news.

There will always be people or groups who will say things or support a controversial cause just to get their face in the spotlight. I agree with what you are saying and encourage you to take every opportunity to right wrongs that you see. Speak up for the right and good things in this world ....

Margaret Meade said "A small group of dedicated people can change the world. Indeed, it is all that ever has."

Work hard to defend good and thwart evil in your own backyard and it will help the situation.

Right on! This Administation and Congress have got to go. They have no morals at all. The last administration may have had alittle sex scandal, but nothing like the lies that have come from the republicans and the religious zealots like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell on the far right. Let's go back to inclusionary politics and the center where most Americans really are!

Thank you for seeing the light!

It's true that we are losing our way but it's not President Bush's fault, it happens to be the supreme court and congress.

Now I know what you're saying with supreme court, Bush appointed two new judges. Yes, but it was their fault that they voted to not give these people military tribunals and now Geneva Convention protection.

The world is all ****** up right now and it's the liberalism that's infected America that will be the end of us all if we don't stand by our President and the Conservative force in America!

We do this and we shall defeat terrorism!

Viva America! Viva Israel!

where's yours? you're dragging 3,000 dead people into your argument, in an effort to excuse your own warmongering. stick up for your beliefs, don't try to shame your detractors by hiding among innocents who were slaughtered.

why are you referring to both the vietnam war and 911? you don't mention the military, you typed "patriot". you are profoundly dishonest in your arguments. do you hold yourself to any moral standard or do you need to be right THAT bad? no one can read your mind ethan, they must respond to what you wrote, not what you hoped you were expressing. you have no evidence, and no way to point out anyone's mistakes in the drivel you have spewed.

for shame... dude, like wwjd? be a straight shooter like our commander in chief! and take an english class or two! apparently you have a lot of free time on your hands.
