Is it disrcimatory to whites, to give racial minorities special rights. Two wrongs don't make a right. I feel Affirmitive action is an oxymoron in itself. How can you stop discrimation, by discriminating?

Affirmative action is not discriminatory to whites. Affirmative action just ensures that all people of every complexion and gender are given equal rights in the working world. If Affirmative action were the other way around, would you consider it immoral then?

I think it is right or as best and closest we can come. Life is more a question of who you know not what you know. Most minorities don't have an Uncle John who is a University President who can give scholarships to his relatives. They don't have rich Mommies and Daddies who can pay their way through college. No start-up capital for a small business from Uncle Herbert. No history of people in their families with college degrees who can help with their High School homework. etc etc etc. Affirmative action should continue until there is equality. If and when that happens it would be unfair to continue it. You might say ,well neither did I get any breaks, that's probably true and you know what maybe there should be "affirmative action" for all disadvantaged regardless of race.Until then the most historically disadvantaged are a good start

Exactly! People only like Affirmative action because it makes them feel like they are doing something to give back to the minority community which whites have not been that bad to anyway.

With black people...I can kind of see why they would be mad but at the time slavery was legal, now after it was abolished and we had discrimination, yeah I can see how they would be a little mad.

Mexicans and all the other Chicanos do not have a right to argue here, we didn't do anything wrong to them, we let them take American jobs, we let them go to top colleges that they are not even qualified for and they don't even belong in the country.

The Arabs are just as bad too but they want to kill us. We have them taking flying lessons and taking classes in chemistry at colleges to kill us.

Now tell me what does Affirmative action do for whites? It shuts them out because they are more qualified.

There are three problems with affirmative action.

1. It's racist
2. I gives people who do not deserve things, preference over those who do. Worse, it gives responsibilities to people who can't handle them. This is disasterous for society.
3. It's a dismal failure.

The truth is that black failure is not caused by racism, institutional or otherwise. It's caused by bad behavior on their part and a problem with genetically lower IQ. This last makes success difficult, but not impossible. Through hard work, determination and a focus on virtue, a person with a lower IQ can go quite far. The problem is, this does not describe your typical black person (it DOES however, describe the exceptional black person who makes a success out of himself).

Not only is affirmative action morally wrong, but it deflects blacks from doing what is necessary to solve the problem. They feel that society (ie white people) owe them something, when the truth is, inappropriate behavior on a large scale has blocked them from true equality.

You know what the word is to describe a person who expects others to take care of them and take responsibility for them?

Slave. It's time black people stopped being slaves and started being men (and women, but you know what I mean). Free men are responsible for themselves and self-reliant.

I think that affirmative action is right, and it has nothing to do with discrimination of someone else. It is about people who would never have a chance, getting one.

It's called Affirmative Action for a reason, for if it was called racial discrimination, those who favor it would appear to be hypocrites. It is racial discrimination and should be illegal like all other racial discrimination is.

Affirmative action was morally necessary at first (because lesser qualified white guys were getting hired) but now outdated (because lesser qualified non-white guys are getting hired).
