I have a love-hate relationship with my name. It is not so much that my parents named me, but I was named after my dad. Does this mean that I have to follow a certain path with a lot expectations? Does it mean I have my own path? Sometimes though, it is my identity. It is who I became with some guidance and a little luck.

Not true, if you are not happy with the name given to you by your parents you can always change it by deed poll.
In England you can any how.
Or you can just put an addvert in the paper saying " I John Doe wish to be known as Peter doe as from today."

Doesn't really matter. many of the things that run your life is decided by another person. The laws, how many hours you will work, what job you will be doing while you are there, and many other things

There is no need for either, if you truly don't resonate with the name given to you by your parents, change it to something you feel is more you.
There is no need to go through life hating your name.
This simply sends negative energies inward to yourself if you are constantly thinking I hate my name.

I love it. If I'd had to choose my own name, I would have gone with something stupid, like Lorthan Dragonfire.
Plus, it's my parents who gave me my name, and because I love them I wear it proudly.
