The Athlon also doesn't run as hot. Less voltage is required. A 3000 + AMD runs at about 2000Ghz but is rated 3000 to be compared with a 3Ghz P4. The Athlon was more popular with inthusiasts for many reasons. Check out the link I gave you for all kinds of reviews and benchmarks.

If your building a new PC look into the new Core Duo's. P4's and Athlon are being phased out as we speak.

Edit: Someone says the P4 runs cooler...Hmmmmmm I don't belive that ;) Realy though, trust a pro and head to toms or other sites that benchmark and test these things.

The athlon has a slight edge in the speed & video department, and is a good bit lower in price. The pentium 4 runs cooler and is usually more stable, either one should do a fine job with photo work and music.

AMD is a less expensive processor, but performance wise, they are almost identical. Intel makes a world-class chipset, and AMD is not far behind. For the money, I'd choose AMD, but for the warranty, I'd take Intel.

2 different brands, 2 different CPU architectures, the amd is cheaper than intel, intel P4 is better
