A nerd is book smart but socially stupid. It can be both male or female but generally male because their feelings aren't as vulnerable as a females are so women tend to do more to fit in with society. They are smart but when it comes to style and dating and every social situation that doesn't include other nerds, they bomb out, don't know a thing .

I think it has to do with a person that is not involved with fashion trends, what other people think of them and a keen eye on their future. The nerds of today are tomorrows leaders of politics and business.
