All of the little kids on our street are allowed to play outside on the street and at other peoples houses without supervision, their ages range from 4 to 10, I can understand the 10 year old, but my kids are 4 and 6 and I don't think they are old enough to be left unsupervised for so long...is it just me, or are these other parents just way to lax? We live in a brand new upper middle class subdivision, so it's relatively safe I suppose, but our street is not a cul-de-sac, and I can't see the kids unless they stay right infront of the house, these other kids seem to just go where they please...Am I just too overprotective?

I DON"T believe you are over protective. What you want to do for your kids is what so many other parents won't do for their own kids. Kids need and want to be supervised, watched and given guide lines in which to live. You're trying to keep your kids safe for their future! GOOD LUCK now and into their future(especially as teens).

Kids at even 10 need to be supervised if not what happens when they are teens? A lot of parents are too busy worrying about them to worry about their kids...this is wrong. I have the kids come first attitude. Mine are 16, 15, & 9 and safe and good kids because of my no parents no go rule. Dont let other parents influence your gut. Your gut is always right go with it.

no u are not overprotective. even in an upper middle class subdivision. children need supervision especially at that age. my son is 6 and it annoys him to no end that he can only go so far away no matter where we are. he's at the age where holding hands is 4 babies. lol

No, you're not being overprotective... regardless of the neighborhood being relatively safe, you don't know what goes on in the minds of people... you can't be too careful these days... too many perverts out there, not to mention kidnappings... NO neighborhood is totally safe from these acts of insanity.

no you are not too overprotective. your kids are too young to be left unsupervised. it does not matter the high degree of safety of the neighborhood; as a parent your responsibility is to ensure their safety, which is knowing where they are at all times.
