I love the medium and sound and just love it when there are really good productions on radio (especially sci-fi, you can get away with so much) and I love the idea of being able to one day make a solo radio production involving sci-fi themes or comedic observations of life's little absurdities... so, my question is really based on the theme of Radio and sound, ie, visual mediums get all the money and top billing, but radio is given a 'poor cousin' status. What's that all about then??

Kiddo, TV has been the big deal ever since it came along. And, yes, that's where the big money is. But, you can also make a very good living in radio, especially if you can work your way up to the big markets (and that ain't easy). You are right, though, radio production is a lot of fun, and can be more entertaining than television. When I was a kid, I listened to radio programs like "Gunsmoke," "Interanctum," "The Life of Riley," and others with my grandfather. There was an episode of "Interanctum" that was scarier than anything I've ever seen on TV. The sound effects were great.

Go for it, if that's what you want to do. Otherwise, one day you wake up and wonder, What If.

Sounds like its your calling. I guess if Satellite radio thrives, you might have a good opportunity there. And also Books on Cd might be a way to go.
