Banal--drearily commonplace and predictable; trite.
Anal--a description of a personality that is (often annoyingly) meticulous and set in its ways. A nitpicker.

Banal comes from the old French, meaning something regular or boring. Anal comes from Freud's description of the human consciousness.

"Banal" means commonplace, trite, mediocre, whereas "anal" means concealing, controlling, holding on to. No connection between the two, except that there are a few people around who share both characteristics. In fact, one holds the very highest office in the country!

Ridiculous question. Do you own a dictionary? If so, use it. Your question is exceedingly ignorant.
