Not looking for comments on how it works for you--I would like to know why it works, the theory behind it, and if it actually does anything.

It works by causing the sensation of heat on the part you applied it to. This sensation (no actual heat involved) is caused by the stimulation of nerves sensitive to heat. The body's natural reaction to this is for blood vessels (in the part the rub as applied on) to dilate (get bigger), hence more blood flows to the muscle.

Of course, muscle rub is used on aching muscles, so the more blood flows to them, the more nutrients flow in to help repair muscle damage, and the more waste will be removed, and more white blood cells move in to prevent infection and further speed up the healing process. Lastly, it feels good.

Lets see, the mental in it helps sooth and relax the muscle by stimulation of heat. Heat dilates the blood vessels in you muscle let more blood flow resulting in the relaxation of the muscle.............. hope this was helpful
