I live in BC, Canada, and I was wondering if it would be hardy enough to grow here. Has anyone grown it first-hand? The legal stuff - NOT MARIJUANA!

A Yahoo search for "hemp growers" (include the quotation marks) yields 13,500 results. If you do the same search, and are willing spend a little time exploring, I'm sure that you will quickly find the information you seek.

Although hemp is legal in Canada, I am not sure about the U. S., even though Jefferson himself wove hemp.
Over here in the prairies, we have a local company that produces many things made of hemp, and our short season is good enough to produce a good crop.
