why did they aliens attack? why did it take his son? why did his daughter put all the water out? why didn't the dew on the corn burn the ailens? I mean I love M. Night but, this movie was stupid! I am hoping I just missed the meaning somewhere. Like I totally got the village. Is this just a bad movie or, did I miss something?

My take on the film (which was actually interesting) is that it's the story of a man moving through a "crisis of faith." Shyamalan constructed the film in a way that shows this character (the ex-priest) reacting to the events predictably. All those little plot points (his wife's dying words about "swing away," the daughter leaving water glasses everywhere, the son's asthma attack that saves him from the poison gas, etc.) that seem insignificant to him as they happen, suddenly force him to question whether it was all coincidence or predestination. And the same question applies to you when you watch. Either you believe everything in the story was related and predestined, or you believe it was all a complex series of chance occurrences.

According to Morgan's book, they had run out of resources on their own planet and needed to harvest ours.
why did it take his son?
The alien had been left behind and thought that it was still his mission to take bodies captive for research.
why did his daughter put all the water out?
She had OCD, and would rarely finish a glass because it would get contaminated or old.
why didn't the dew on the corn burn the ailens?
I don't think that there was enough dew to cause a problem.

Yu are looking too deep into this one there isnt a hidden message hidden form you is really was as bad as you thought. Shamalan is famous for his 'twists' but they dont always make sense. Tak his new movie coming out LAdy in the water. No one has any idea what is going on Thruthfully all of his movies are annoying predictable because you know that that twist is coming...

Well you kinda missed things (that have already been answered) but I didnt like the movie much either. My main gripe with the whole alien thing is.. why move to earth if they are vurnable to water? the had 1/4 of chance of succeding
