My marriage has been going downhill for some time now, so I am going to consult with a divorce attorney. What questions should I ask her?

There are really only two important questions...
1. How much will this all cost?
2. Can we get him to pay for it?

First off - ask her if you can get divorced. In some states you still have to have grounds for divorce.
Second - ask specifics about her fee. Is it a one-time fee, or will you be charged per hour? If it's not a fixed-fee, ask what things will make the fee go up.
Third - and this is the squishy one - get a feel for her. Does it seem like she knows what she's talking about? Does she make grandiose promises that sound unrealistic? Does she take time to answer your questions or does she try to hassle you out the door?

What are your rights, what about the distribution of assets, how much money is she going to charge you and how much to retain her now.
Does my state have alimony (spousal support) and what will that cost me? How soon can I file and how long before it will be final?
Can my spouse fight this effectively if she doesn't want the divorce?
If there are children of this union, how can I secure custody of my children, or how much child support will I likely have to pay?
