Seriously, does Yahoo really think that this format of asking the general public can replace Google as a legit search engine. It seems like a glorified chat room to me. Does someone have an intelligent answer?

Hello Nick;
A1/ No, it's a way to put a human perspective on the search for knowledge. Google and all other search engines do not yet exhibit insight or creativity. This forum allows human to human sharing of experience, and is psychologically healthy.
A2/ No, I'm a know it all, it's true, but I'm only half witted half of the time.
A3/ No, It feels good to know that I or any other user has an answer that helps another, and that if I have a question, there's a place I can look for an answer.
A4 No, It's more efficient, have you ever done a search that turns up 135 million results?

I'm interested in what experience prompts you to ask such an anger driven question and debases the sincere efforts to help and share that I've noted on this forum. Or is it just facetious irony?

Yes, it's a forum for half-witted know-it-alls; that's why I'm here. You stated the matter succinctly -- but do you have a problem with that?

On the other hand, nobody suggests that it replaces any search engine. The two are totally disparate concepts.

A glorified chat room, probably. I find more glory in Yahoo answers than in a chat room. But it's not good to stay in too long.
So I'd say, all in all, you're basically right; and today is Saturday.

It's just a purpose focused, user-friendly chat room and in no way should be considered a search engine. Hell, google will send you to wikipedia for most things anyway. This format allows people to feel good about themselves (point system, best answer thing) because of what they know and allows them to get answers to questions that they can write in plain English. The thing I like about it, being a half-witted know-it-all, is the ability to see multiple points of views on a topic as opposed to just following the links that you think are right and disregarding the rest.
Several non-Yahoo versions have preceded it such as answers.com and. . .well . . .normal bulletin boards. I suspect at some point we'll see ads or some money-making instrument popping up-- after they have us all hooked.

I think this forum is just as much for entertainment purposes as it is informational services. And sometimes, yes it's better to do legitimate research, but for personal or health issues, it helps to talk to other people that have been in the same situation. By the way, I hope you don't mean that everyone on this site is a "half-witted know-it-all" because not only is that insulting, it's a pretty pompous thing to say. Besides, it that's the way you fell & you're on this site, what does that make you?

It's even worse than that. Yahoo Answers just drives even more people use Google to find out the answer to some question someone posted.

well, it is a bit of a chat room but every now and again i get an intellegent answer to a question... some times a more than one... i think that if you take some of the answers you get that might have a little bit of truth behind them you might have a better direction to go on when/if you decide to look up the question in a more reliable way.

so what does that make you for insulting everyone? a fourth-witted jackass? i'll give you an intelligent answer when you ask an intelligent question. you could have worded that in a nicer way and probably gotten more legitimate answers.
