Speedos worn for non-competitive purposes look silly and effeminate--even a lot of gay men will say so--but on the other hand board shorts look cumbersome, overly-modest, and sort of pathetically timid. I think if a man has thick, firm thighs and a relatively flat stomach that square-cut "boxer-brief" style shorts are ideal, particularly a dark color that doesn't draw too much attention to the bulge. If you're skinny and nerdy or fat and hairy, stick with board shorts and a T-shirt while you're at it. Chances are, though, you're a heterosexual and more concerned with what straight women think, and the average American female is going to suggest board shorts, regardless of your body type. (probably because they're secretly afraid of penises, lol)
