Barrett came up with the name, which was derived from two old forgotten Blues artists, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

In common with many of their peers in the mid-1960s British Blues revival, the band were huge fans of Blues music and, as their earliest music indicates, they orginally intended to be a conventional blues influenced rock band rather than the experimental band they later became.
