Skeleton Key , Hide N Seek, Boogey Man, The Ring, The Ring 2, White Noise, Three Extremes-foreign but really scary, Amitiville Horror, Nightmare on Elm Street is always a classic horror...

You should actually try to seek less mainstreamish films. Most of the films currently released are avoidable. Expectt a decent scare from the upcoming The Descent. If you dont mind subtitles one of my favorite recent films is A Tale of Two Sisters. I Highly recomend it. It's asian horror so expect something like the grudge and the ring, but better.

Also when I was a kid Poltergeist used to scare my pants off.

House of Wax or hmmmm..... THe Sixth Sence is a classic scary and worth watching again and again I would suggest stay aliv but it's not out yet sooo...

Definitely Hills Have Eyes if you haven't seen it YOU SHOULD!! IT is awsome!! It also depends on what your interested in wether it is horror, thriller, slasher films. gory films. But hostel is pretty good to!! I reccoment older films they are always scarier!!
