Because if there were no minors on myspace, myspace would lose all its business! I'm willing to bet the vast majority of myspace users are minors. Plus, even those who aren't minors wouldn't be willing to pay even $2. There are enough alternatives to myspace that are free that they would lose most of their visitors, and all that lost traffic would mean lost advertising revenue.

That would be the responsibility of the parent's of children. If parents would buy their child a $300 ipod or psp to keep them out of their hair I am sure a $2 fee would have no impact whatsoever on minors participation on Myspace. There is an option for minors 14 or younger to make their profile "private". Often minors under 14 choose 15 or over so their profile can be "public" unbeknownst to their too busy to notice parents.

Kids today are so bright, and so computer savvy that it would take them about 10 minutes (max) to figure out a way around your credit card scheme and the only ones paying would be us dumb old adults. In an ideal world, kids would be outside playing with their friends, but there are predators out there too!

My space was designed for the young. Let's face it, nothing is going to turn back the tide of the computer age. Predassholes will find a way around everything. It is sad, but I think castration and the like is the only thing that will stop them.

They don't need to charge your credit card. The site can require a credit card for age verification and not charge you anything for the site. Why make something that is free cost something? Don't we have enough thing's in this world that charges you money.

If memory serves correct, MY SPACE was originally for teens and young adults, not for adults. This was supposed to be a safe way for them to express themselves and to contact their peers. It was the adults that screwed that up for the kids....
Just like the chat-rooms, the pedophiles will find reasons to join in; what is this world coming too????
