Huh?! No, of course not; none of them work! That cop who was blown away in Philadelphia a couple of months ago trying to pick up some extra overtime for his family, he was just responding to an armed robbery when the guy shot him at close range in the neck. A vacation, wouldn't you say? As a teacher in an inner city school for 7 years, I WORKED despite the threats from students and their family members, the bruises, the racist insults. I hope the next time that "certain person" needs a cop or a fireman, I hope he runs into the people he's accusing of not working.

Well none of these people work for "Uncle Sam" they work for local governments (except for a few Federal employees over seas or on Federal installations)

I would agree they work but I think they would be more productive if their industries were privatized (more so on Teachers and Firemen than police)

WHAT A JERK THIS FELLOW IS. SOME OF THE MOST HARDWORKING PUBLIC SERVANTS ARE BEING DISSED BY AN A**HOLE. TEACHERS HAVE TO PUT UP WITH YOUR BRATTY, UNDISCPLINED KIDS, WHO WON'T DO A FRIGGING THING AND THEN WHEN THEY FAIL, THE PARENTS ARE ON THEM LIKE WHITE ON RICE.
POLICE AND FIREMEN BOTH PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE EVERY DAY THEY ARE AT WORK, BUT THEY DON'T EARN THEIR WAGES AND DON'T WORK, BUT THE ORIGINATOR DOES AND HE PAYS ALL OF THEM TOO! SOUNDS LIKE HE IS JEALOUS, WANTED TO BE A FIREMAN WHEN HE GREW UP, BUT COULDN'T MAKE THE CUT OFF. SO NOW HE IS SOUR GRAPES. TOO BAD, JERK.
LEAVE THE HARD WORKING PUBLIC SERVANTS ALONE AND GO AFTER THE POLITICIANS INSTEAD.

Of course they work, but I also hear many tales of "working the system" where they negotiate union contracts to deliberately understaff stations and such so that they can then work 1 extra day a week and make double overtime and such. That's how a fireman who is supposed to make $40K a year or whatever ends up making $75K.

That kind of corruption is BS., especially when it's on the taxpayers dime.

Of course these people work for a living and they work hard. Ask this certain person how they would like to teach a class full of student like themselves. I'm thinking that may scare the hell out of them. Police and fireman are not paid to be shooting, arresting, putting out fires, & saving people 24X7, but by God when you need them, they are there and they are there to do their jobs well. What is this certain person smoking?

I somewhat agree. They definately have advantages that the average worker/citizen does not have. Medical benifits, retirement plans, most can't be fired at will, they have job security, no accountability etc. They get tons of free training that helps them advance their careers, they have a clear and concise path for advancement. Do they work for a living? That depends on what you consider work.

Of course, public servants work for a living. These people are NOT the problem with government. It is the people who are way above them who are messing things up.

I have no idea what you mean. Considering I went to school, I've been pulled over for speeding by police, and my neighbor's house fire was put out by fireman, I'm pretty sure all these people exist.

Some will put more into their jobs than others -same as in the private sector. You can just get fired easier in the private sector if you don't produce.

Yeah they are there at work to respond to silly people like yourself who don't appreciate what they do for you and others.
