Take a wider view: not everyone believes that Jesus is "the savior". The top 5 world religions are Islam, Catholicism, Hinduism, Protestantism, and Buddhism. The idea of a virgin birth is not unique to Christianity either: check out the Greek myths and you'll see similarities.

There are many world religions and you will find similar themes in all when you look at them: love your neighbor , peace is valued, etc. Religions are trying to explain the world--how it was created, what is the meaning of life, etc.

Science and philosophy also attempt to answer these tough questions, but instead of requiring a leap of faith by its adherents, philosophy and science require logic and sound evidence: claims are either proven or disproven by reason or evidence.

In all religions, you also have many people who claim to practice a particular religion and then act in the opposite manner (e.g., love thy neighbor becomes "judge thy neighbor" for some). That does not mean that the religion is bunk but that those practicing need a lot more practice :-)

Good luck to you.

You don't have to see something to believe it. I spent a lot of my life "knowing" that I was alone. Why is it so odd to find the opposite true? We spend so much time forgetting why we are here. Why are you here? Because God loves you. That's all. He loves you. Jesus died because He loves you. And He wants you to love Him.

I find hope in the assurance I get from knowing Jesus loves me. I get up in the morning and feel hope, and I read his promises and that gives me strength.

I know Jesus is there for me because when I seek Him first, He fulfills my needs. When I focus on Him, I have hope and peace of mind.

Why would we be brainwashed? What does Christianity have to gain by making people believe something against their will? God gave us free will to worship Him because we love Him, not just to make us. God wants us all to love Him; that's all He wants.

People have this mentality that "every one is out to make a profit off of you." While there are a lot of people like that, not everyone is. Only the people who feel like they have nothing take what they don't earn.

It comes down to faith and a decision to believe in Jesus. Do you believe Jesus was just a man, or do you think he was the Son of God? Mere carpenter turned self-proclaimed prophet or something divine? There have been lots of Christian sects with varying views of Jesus. What do you know of Jesus beyond Jesus the Savior? From what I have learned, he was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, and was buried. He rose from the dead after three days. The reason people feel he is the Savior of all mankind is that by his death (when he could have avoided it, he the Son of God, wasn't he?) he was able to gain everlasting life for us. He was saving us all from eternity in Hell by offering himself for us. From what I understand, there was no going to Heaven before he died for us. You died, and you went to Hell. By his suffering and death, he provided a way for new life for us, a life in Heaven. He died, lived again, and went to Heaven. Simple as that. As for believing in him...It is a choice of believing that he was real and that he died for us. It's just like you don't have to see the grave of Leonardo da Vinci to know he was real, or a photograph of Charlemagne. You know they exist, don't you? People wrote about them, and they left artifacts that they created behind. We can read what people have written about them and see what they created. Same with Jesus. He was written about in the Bible and the Koran, and he's mentioned in countless other texts from Biblical times. The most enduring things about Jesus, though, are his actions and teachings. He did not shun the poor, and he even talked with prostitutes, adulterers, and corrupt tax collectors. This was not because he was corrupt, but because he cared about everyone, even the ones other people hated. He performed miracles, like healing a sick man so that he could walk again, driving out a horde of demons, and healing...always healing. Also, there was his message: Love others as you love yourself. I don't think we've been brainwashed. I think that the majority of us in American areas and Europe grow up with some kind of exposure to the Christian religion. Many people feel it's natural to accept Jesus as their Savior because they are the most familiar with Jesus. In other places, it might be Buddah or Allah or nature spirits or several gods. If you're still not sure what to believe, research some religions and see what comes closest to what you believe to be true and what feels right. Buddhism or Zen can be good choices to try (I have friends who are Buddhists) and Zen can be calming all on its own. (I'm not too familiar with it, but I know enough that it is beneficial). Or, you might shop around the Christian sects. Try a Catholic retreat at a monastery or convent: a lot of them are always happy to have visitors, and they'll answer any question you ask. There are always Christian retreat centers for non-Catholics as well, and just about every denomination has them. Just be true to yourself in this, and you're sure to find what's right for you. I hope this has answered your question and given you a few options.

Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammad are saviors, because they called people to do good things. it's not bad when you wash your brain with good teachings.

We know He exists because we have a relationship with Him. I have seen Him change countless lives for the better.

One time I was ill. I invoked His name three times. I was instantly healed.

"You ask me how I know He lives. He lives within my heart."

I have never seen the wind either, but I know it when it blows.
It is simply called faith. You don't have to see to believe, but when you believe you will see it everywhere.
