The Ramones, even though they aren't together

Bobesink, AC/DC is not punk. AC/DC is hard rock, used to be considered Heavy Metal

AC/DC, Linkin park etc. aren't punk, fart-knockers.

In answer to the question:

FUGAZI are by far the best that I've heard. Green Day aren't bad at all but are still under a corporation.

Check out the following albums: In on the killtaker, Repeater + 3 songs, 13 songs, Steady diet of nothing. Red Medicine.

There are others but these are the real hardcore ones.

Chris_s, anybody can be part of a revolution that is yet to happen. Modern punks are rebelling against the limitations and restrictions put on people by the mass conformist categorisation forced upon us by governments, corporations and people in general that have clearly defined boundaries...like you for example. We aren't robots or categories. We don't play the same mutually-abusive, porn-watching, neighbour-judging roles as the rest of the world. It's about not having the same standards as everyone else when those standards are old and out-dated.

The punks of 30 years ago are the establishment today.
I think that John Lydon is the only one who has publicly remained true to punk.

Gotta agree with ecco666777 on this one- except for the Green Day bit... never really got into them...

The Adicts are awesome, and still together. Greatest punk band of all time, I'd have difficulty answering, but as for nowadays, it's definitely the Adicts.

Anti-Flag

Yes, they recently released an album via a major label. But what classic punk band hasn't? They have a long history in the underground punk scene. Their music is political and catchy. They run a record label. They play in protests. The perfect, modern day punk band!

I can't believe no one is mentioning any of the old punk bands that are still around.. The Adicts are still around, even with all the original members. And there are a lot of others still touring, mostly with new singers and such, but they're way better than Fall Out Boy, AFI, and all that other crap people are listing. Green Day is alright, but they're not as good as they used to be.

Punk happened between 1977ish an 1981 again ish, I'm no history book.
Whoever you are talking about now, is not punk, as this was a revolutionary phase. You can't be a revolutionary 30 years after the event

the comparable factor happens in various genres, as an occasion, in case you elect to locate a conventional dying steel band that sounds the comparable as the different conventional dying steel band, you will no longer have difficulty looking one, looking one it relatively is distinctive and exciting is what's problematic, so i'm no longer saying that hardcore punk is crap and all of it sounds the comparable, i'm saying, in case you elect to locate a hardcore punk band that's no longer crap, and does not sound the comparable, you may try tougher. Hardcore bands that i like, which sound distinctive and exciting to me: Candiria Dillinger get away Plan Sikth Protest the Hero i think of it relatively is it, basically those 4 bands, yet i'm a metalhead, no longer a punk, so i do no longer regularly pay attention to Hardcore besides.
