Hold on a minute, if you work out the hourly rate that females and males are on court at major tournament, i think you'll find the women are paid better than the men! If this was in any other working environment this would be classed as discrimination against males! You boost the hours women stay on court then and only then should equal pay be put in place! So i completely agree with you!

Nickspillett has the right answer. At Wimbledon, the women get about $2100.00 ( usd ) per game and the men $1800.00. Also, when the women can play the best of 5 they can earn the same money. Can you imagine a women who can only drive 180 mph at the Indy 500 demanding the same money as a many driving 203 mph? Can you imagine a women 6 feet tall demanding the same as man 7 feet tall in basketball. The ONLY reason women make any $$$ at all in tennis is because of Billie Jean King. Before her, they practically had no women's tennis anywhere in the world on a competitive level. Have you heard Venus or Serena Williams ever say,"thank you Billie Jean"? ANd by the way, if the women think they deserve equal money, let them sign up for the men's draw. Did you know that women can play in the men events but men ( not including Renee Richards ) can't ever play in a women's event?

Actually, what they are paid should be based on the revenue that they produce - thats why the incomes for many athletes can be pretty high, because they generate a lot of revenue. If women can produce as much revenue as men, even when playing for a shorter time, then they should get equal pay.
I'm not sure that they do draw as well as the men at the majors, but most of the tournament directors seem to feel that they do and I'm in no position to argue with them.

HOW CAN people as stupid as you exist?
Just because they dont play as many sets doesn't mean they should get paid less
THese women are at the top of their game just as the men are, if you discriminate against them then you are discriminating against them for the fundamental differences between men and women and you cant do that because these differences CANT be changed and so then its like discriminating against Black people because of the colour of their skin and we believe this is wrong in our society so why should we do the same with women?
Simple, we shouldn't!
Secondly, women's tennis is THE most publicised sport in the world for women, no one really knows about womens football or cricket, but everyone watches Wimbledon and knows a bit about womens tennis, so if we discriminate against women and treat as second class people in the biggest womens sport in the world then we are setting a really bad example
Also men and women already get paid equally at the French, Australian and American Opens, they only get paid less at Wimbledon.

That is the only real argument for the tennis players paid equally. It has to be seen as what does womens tennis bring to its interest other than just beauty. I believe they should be paid as mens tennis has got boring. Interest in mens tennis has improved with the emergence of Rafael Nadal.

They're paid to do the same job as the men at every tournament. The same level of play, the same amount of preparation, the same pressures. Tennis players aren't paid by the hour. If you hire one man and one woman to do the same thing, they should be paid the same amount regardless of the actual amount of time it takes to complete the job.

i've been saying this all along. i totally agree with you. the women's game is so much easier then the men's. women play a maximum of 3 sets. men play a minimum of 3 sets. there is no way they should have equal pay. you are absolutely correct.

it's not about how many sets they play. its the level of play and each point they play is longer than what the men's play. they are pros and just because they are women, doesn't mean they should get paid less. that would be sexist.
