(1/2 - 1/3)/5/8

First combine the fractions in parentheses.

1/2 - 1/3

Its easy to see that a common denominator is 6, so if we multiply the left fraction by 3/3 and the right fraction by 2/2 we can then do the operation

1*3/2*3 - 1*2/3*2 = 3/6 - 2/6 = 1/6

The original problem is now

(1/6)/(5/8)

A big numerator, 1/6, over a big denominator, 5/8

The rule here is to write the big numerator and then multiply it by the reciprocal of the big denominator.

(1/6)(8/5) = (1*8)/(6*5) = 8/30 = 4/15

Why does the rule work? Well, if you multiply the big denominator by its reciprocal you get

(8/5)(5/8) = 40/40 = 1 so the new big denominator becomes 1 and we have left only the new big numerator, remembering that whatever we did to the denominator we must also do to the numerator and the answer will be

(1/6)(8/5) = 4/15

Hi, A *!
This is my work: (1/2 - 1/3) : 5/8 = (3/6 - 2/6) : 5/8 = 1/6 : 5/8 = (1 . 8)/(6 . 5) = 8/30 = 4/15
As you can see, I solved the difference between brackets first, then the division, and finally, I reduced the result to lowest terms (using equivalent fractions with equal denominator, for the difference).
Hope this helps.
Bye!

[1/2 - 1/3] =2/6 cuz u have to get the same denominator so
2/6-5/8=7/24 then you have to reduce it to 1/6

1/2- 1/3=1/6
so 1/6 divided by 5/8 is 4/15
so the answer is 4/15

(1/2 - 1/3)/(5/8)

(3/6 - 2/6)/(5/8)

(1/6)/(5/8)

(1/6) * (8/5)

(8/30), which can be reduced to (4/15).
