Simple. Because people are ignorant, greedy, selfish, and lazy, to a large degree, and they expect government to be Santa Claus.
We have huge social problems because the schools and the parents do a really crappy job of educating kids about society itself, and finally there's a lot of misconceptions out there, too.
There are those that only tell the 'happy' side of history, and don't delve into things like the indian massacres, the numerous wars that've come about in the formation of the United States, use of mexican 'guest workers' etc., and to finally top it off, add a helping of good ol' fashioned american apathy. When the cat's away, the mice will play, and when parents are holding 2 jobs to pay the bills, they're not looking after their kids the way they should. You can't heap it all on parents, there's other factors, but
the end result exists regardless of factors. More parents and citizens need to become more civically involved, and work locally to deal with issues and problems. 'Government' means 'to govern', or to 'control and regulate'. In our country, on paper at least, the People ARE 'the government', and therefore it's also up to us AS citizens to react to problems and take care of them, or at the very least, TRY. No one's perfect, and some issues are really hard to deal with. But, by dealing with the small problems, sometimes you can forestall ever having to deal with bigger ones. Teach your kids, teach other people's kids, be active in your community, speak up on issues you feel are important to address, vote, encourage others to do likewise. Citizenship in schools and in our communities can go a long way toward fixing things.

What are you saying??
You are exaggerating. Sure, we have a few problems, but you make it sound like we have a lot. You're using examples spread out over time. Another thing, the problems on the news are exaggerated, cause they want things to be exciting. The news people hate nothing worse than a boring day.
If they have to get on and announce "Well, folks, today was really boring." it would just about kill them to announce something like that.
Also, they do what they can to engender scandals where ever possible. Bush is really a sweet guy, and they are trying to nurture scandals out of his administration. And look at Condoleeza Rice, she is gorgeous lady and and they are trying to impugn her motives etc. Lord have mercy.

Don't kid yourself.
This is happening in Canada too, relative to its population. Toronto just went through Year of the Gun, Part I, and this summer, they are going through Part II.
Canada wasn't like this until the last ten years and this is because we are turning out to be much like a laissez-faire state and ignoring the socioeconomic problems that are at least at the base of this.
Yeah, somebody's going to come back and say Canada's like this because of our so-called "lax" criminal laws; think again - the US still has the death penalty in many states and their punishments are much more harsh than ours ... and here you are asking why the US has so many problems with crime and such, so there has to be other factors at play.

Well, one reason is because we have more freedom then other countries. Also if you think about it, germany, england, spain, their all only about the size of Oregon.
Were free and pretty much 50 times the size of most countries out there. Plus it depends on how people are. Iraq has it alot worse then us.

We have so many problems because people are being exploited completely. We are also being very carefully and coldly manipulated by some secret group of crazies that have rationalized that there is no god, but they can in fact become a god through their ritualistic behavior. Hence the celebration of violence at every turn, even in commercials, and the making taboo of the human body and love. Things that can aide us in are constant struggle for freedom are demonized, even if its just a booby.

I don't know that the amount of problems has really increased. Media coverage of them has. We are the most likely nation on earth to air our dirty laundry. We are also ridiculous. You are in far more danger of being killed in a car accident then you are of being shot. Which does the news stress more? There are a lot of issues that the press are trying to ram down our throats. I do not like the media because of this.

Very broad question.
so i will be as consice as i can.
The problem is each individuals upbringing.
Guns don't fire themselves.
It is a viocious cycle of hit and miss, depending on your parents, on thier upbringing forming individuals who together make up nieghbor hoods, cities states, and countries......
one person raised to be selfish and greedy vs the person raised to help and share........
that is the only battle going on.........
one person at a time.....
the cause is what we value, and how we learn what to value.

US seems to be forgetting God who brought her to where she is. Do u know that US is what it is today by the virtue of Abraham Lincoln's acknowledgement of God and the future vision of the US God gave him? It's a pity, but this should bring the States back to God.
