You aren't getting it back in services.
Besides roads and defense, the average American sees nothing from their federal government until they retire.
Foreign governments do very little for their self-sustaining people but quite a lot for the indigents ...

If you choose to smoke, then you pay the SIN taxes.
Did you use the public education system at one time, or anybody else in your family? Do you use the roads in your community? Are you going to retire one day and expect to get some type of pension in addition to what you may have put in?
I have trouble following the concepts given by people who want broad-based and large tax cuts, as they don't tend to work for people like yourself (e.g. who seemed to imply you make less than $30,000 a year). When I made $80,000 a year in my last real job, I didn't get bothered about the taxes, because I knew I made a good salary and could provide for my family.
The only objection I have around taxes is not the amount, but how our government is using our money ... in the past year alone, the provincial government (Ontario) spent $1.2 billion in tax expenditures for banks and insurance companies, $500 million for Casino Windsor, $500 million for the auto industry, $200 million for IBM, etc. while people who are disabled and cannot work have fallen 40% behind since 1993, and many of whom are now having to make the Solomon's choice between keeping a roof over their head or putting food on the table ...
I don't think large companies need ANY of our tax dollars. If these companies can compete internationally as they have, they don't need ANY help. Even if they can't, the answer is to change their strategy, not hold their cups up to the taxpayers for corporate welfare. Feed the needy, not the greedy.

Get a new job.. Progressive tax scales should be working to your favor not against you. Tax covers Public Goods & Services that you don't even think about ...
Electric (subsidized by the Govt)
Phone (subsidized by the Govt)
Gas ( " " )
Military Defense
Water
Health Services
You may not use some of these...but there's a lot of stuff you don't even think about..that your taxes are working towards...yeah.. I'm sure some of it goes to waste..but for the most part..it's pretty well spent...
Make more money...and maybe you'll feel it less...

Are you saying you would rather live in America and have no medical but pay smaller amount of tax. There are reasons why we pay so much tax to keep our society healthy. At least we aren't spending our tax dollars on a war in Iraq.
You must understand that every single country in the world has some sort of corruption and of course some of the tax dollars are going to get "lost" but you are getting your fair share of services

Ask someone from the IRS what the law is that requires you to pay income tax and you'll get your answer. They don't have one. Ironically we have degraded back to the heavy taxation on the middle class and tilted playing field that we were fighting against during the American Revolution. I wish more poeple would remember things like "no taxation without representation". Is anyone other than the ultra wealthy represented in our government anymore?

England has taxes going towards practical things like healthcare.
If they would just spend the tax everyone has to pay on something like that then i wouldn't mind paying them for so much.
Think about it. Free healthcare. You have an accident, rushed to the hospital, get x-rays, surgeries and medicines and then walk out the door.
If England can do it, why can't we?

we have to pay for the services government provides. But then the ******* bastards in the congress turn around and use excess funds the finance their pet projects, **** no it isn't fair. I mean how much of our tax dollar actually goes toward necessary services. there are agencies that waste money just to secure the same amount of funds for the following year.

Personally, I think that if 10% of the population holds 90% of the wealth - they should pay 90% of the taxes!!!

If you want to drive on roads, have social safety-net programs, send your kids to public school, etc., yeah, it is very fair.
