NEVER EVER KEEP 2 RABBITS TOGETHER IN THE SAME CAGE after they are 3 months old. Rabbits are very territorial and the less dominate one will be under so much stress that it can die.It doesn't matter if you have two bucks together or two does together.

I raise a lot of rabbits and I lost track of how many people tell me how well their rabbits are getting along. With my years of experience, I can see that one might have some fur missing, or maybe it might be thin. Rabbits are nocturnal, and the fighting goes on after dark when you are sleeping. Sometimes when I buy used rabbits cages, the people will tell me that they had 2 rabbits in the same cage, and for no reason one died. It died because it wasn't put in it's own cage.

I sold a pair of Dutch rabbits to a lady who wanted to house break them. I figured that they would get along ok in a house, where they can hide from each other if they wanted to. The next year, the lady didn''t want them, and gave them back to me. The doe was so skinny, and the buck wasn't a buck anymore, if you know what I mean. (Rabbits have sharp teeth.)

Another time, someone gave me 8 skinny rabbits. I would not ever use these 4 bucks for breeding purposes, so I got rid of them. The most dormant buck was skinny but ok. All 3 of the other bucks had bite marks all over their body, and one had abscesses. The last 4th buck had gangrene on his back leg. His leg was green and he would have died anyway. This lady told me how great the rabbits all got along, but she didn't have the experience to know how hurt these rabbits really were.

I seperate all bunnies by the time they are 2 months old, into 2 cages. Bucks go into one, does into the other, and smaller breeds have their own cages. One time I found a dead 3 month old buck in the cage with 5 others, and I couln't find a mark on him. The next day, when I was feeding the rabbits, I heard a squeal in the same cage. I ran over to the cage, and there was a buck chasing it's brother around and around. The buck that squealed ran into the wall and just laid there. I moved it, and luckily it ended up just being in shock.

Another time, a lady called me up to say that one of her rabbits was making noises. I went over there, and saw that she had 2 satin does together. The one making the noise had fur missing, and was making frighten noises. This woman also told me how well they get along.

By the time the rabbits are 3 months old, all of my rabbits have their own cages.

Please seperate them into their own cages by the time they are 3 months of age. Rabbits can and do die from stress.

It can be a good thing to have multiple female rabbits, but males cannot be kept together. As long as you pay attention to your rabbit and play with it often, it will not get lonely.

You should have a partner for your rabbit. If you go to the House Rabbit Society website and find a local chapter they can set up "bunny dates" for you to see who would be compatible. It's so great to see two bunnies snuggling.

young rabbits like to be with others (rabbits, people, they are not terribly concerned as long as they can bond and feel safe). Older rabbits like companionship, however, they shouldn't be left in the same cage. They might tend to fight.

We have two rabbits. One male and one female. They are both fixed. And they ADORE each other. I definitely reccommend getting two. If you can, have them spayed or neutered. They will live longer, and be a little more tame.
